Printmaking

Collograph Prints:
Students create a collograph transfer print using a cardboard "plate" (the plate can be art as well!):
  1. Draw images (face and symbols) on a cardboard "plate"--everything will be backwards, even lettering
  2. Glue various items to the drawing such as string, crumpled paper, cardstock, fabric, wrinkled foil, toothpicks, paper clips, etc. (only 3D items will transfer to the print)
  3. Seal the plate (Mod Podge, varnish, glue)
  4. Using water-based ink, add color to the plate using brushes or brayers (roller)
  5. Carefully place dampened paper on the plate and rub carefully, starting at one side and working across the entire paper
  6. Pull paper from plate and dry

Students also used 1/2 of the large face drawing as a guide for the plate drawing

The final print will be backwards from whatever is on the plate--including text

Only textures that can be felt will transfer to the paper--nothing flat
